“OKAY, WHAT HAPPENED?” Monica demanded first thing the next morning.

Pen feigned interest in watching the rental company unload the chairs. “I don’t know what you mean.”“Yes, you do. Someone said they saw you and Mr. Gorgeous in a lip-lock last night and that was in plain view. I want to know what happened behind closed doors.”

Someone saw them, huh? She knew exactly who’d seen them—Paul, she was sure. Her official heavy lifter was smirking at her when they’d made the return circuit to the guesthouse. She knew exactly what had put that knowing smile on Paul’s face and congratulated herself for further perpetuating the idea that they were really a couple.

Despite the fact that Paul didn’t think Seth was her type, she knew she had him fooled, at least. No doubt he’d been catching a smoke before going out with the others, she thought and made a mental note to make sure that he hadn’t left any unsightly cigarette butts behind. He typically didn’t, but she liked to be certain. She never wanted to give any of her clients a reason to complain. Being courteous was just as important as orchestrating the perfect wedding.

As for what had happened behind closed doors… Pen’s cheeks puffed as she exhaled mightily. Absolutely nothing.

She’d cited being tired and having a lot to do the next morning. Then she’d made some sort of awkward gesture with her thumb and hastily retreated to her bedroom. Thankfully, both guest rooms had been outfitted with en suite facilities and she’d run herself a bubble bath and tried not to think about the six-and-a-half feet of masculine temptation that would be literally ready for action if she so much as crooked her finger.

It had been hard.

And he’d been hard, too, when they’d been kissing, so she knew exactly what she was missing.

Oy.

Suffice it to say that Seth McCutcheon was an extremely large man and, given the way a certain part of him had been nudging high on her belly, the rest of him was definitely proportionate.

Her mouth watered anew, her breasts tingled and a hot snake of heat coiled low in her belly, making her resist the urge to squirm. She felt she’d been resisting that urge for a damned eternity instead of a mere twenty-four hours, and didn’t have any idea how on earth she was going to hold out for another night.

“Why are you turning red?” Monica demanded, her voice full of insinuation. “If nothing happened, then why do you look like you let Raggedy Ann apply your blush?”

“Because it’s hotter than four hundred hells out here,” Pen complained good-naturedly, which was the truth.

Though she would never admit it to Nella, she had to agree with Lucy when it came to the whole issue of holding the wedding outside. Early morning would have offered the best temperature, but who held a wedding at seven in the morning? Two o’clock was the norm and two o’clock here, particularly beneath the tents containing the food and dance floor, would be utterly stifling.
